Due to the handmade nature and techniques used to produce these pieces, each one is unique and would take me forever to photograph individually. That is why the images on display here are a representation of the pieces you will receive, the shape and size are the same but the markings will vary. I have put in a selection of photographs to show you the kind of variations I speak of. You are guaranteed that no one else will have the same pieces as you, they are truly unique, just like you :)

The inspiration

My wife Joanne and I have been renovating our little Farmhouse ourselves for the last few years, day by day we make our home a little more homey. The house has sat on this land for a few hundred years before we arrived, history tells us it was built by a family of masons. The house is solid, well made of stone and soil, with functionality at the forefront when it came to design. As an example; the house was positioned not to admire the beautiful views as it would be today but to make sure the wind that comes down from the mountain and in from the bay slams into the gables and doesn't whistle through the house. So it was no surprise to us when we found the original fireplace behind the plaster walls, to be of a scale to stand in for cooking on the open fire. The remnants of a forged hinge that supported the arm that was used to swing a pot over the flames was still lodged in the wall.

Then while digging behind the old shed last spring we found the remains of a cast iron three legged Pot-bellied pot. There wasn't a lot left, some of the rim with its lugs for hanging and the tripod legs attached to a curved base that still spoke of a timeless, functional beauty, a forgotten household treasure and this became my inspiration for the Solas Beag.

We have now replaced the draughty open fire with a little stove to heat our whole home and we made sure to leave space on top to keep our pot of tea warm in Winter months as the fire once did for many before us.
